Rams Can't Overcome Slow Start

Minneapolis, Minn.-- The North Central University Women's Soccer team hosted their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference home game at Elliot Park Field on Friday evening as they took on the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.).

The Rams (1-5, 0-3) got off to a slow start as they allowed four goals in the first 25 minutes of the match.

In the 28th minute, sophomore Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary (U of Ark-Little Rock)) drew a foul just outside the box. Sparrman measured the distance perfectly on the free kick as she curved one right over the top of the Vikings (1-4-1, 1-0-1) keepr into the upper left corner of the net for a Rams goal.

North Central struck again in the 68th minute as freshman Katie Knitt (Butte Des Morts, Wis./Winneconne) took advantage of the wet conditions and scored from 30 yards out as the keeper struggled to control the wet ball, dropping it across the goal line.

The goal was assisted by junior Morgan Freitag (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) and cut the Vikings lead to 4-2.

Unfortunately, the Rams could not generate any more offense in the contest, as they lost their fifth straight game.

North Central returns to action tomorrow, September 19th, as they travel to New Ulm, Minnesota to take on the Knights of Martin Luther College. Kick-off begins at 4:15 p.m.
