NEW ULM, Minn.-- Women's soccer rebounded from a disappointing performance on Friday to earn a hard fought road win over Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon. A pair of goals, one early on in each half, from Dakotah Sparrman lifted the Rams to a 2-1 win over the Knights in New Ulm.
North Central controlled the tempo and pace of the first half and Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattock-St. Mary's) created a bit of space for herself to fire home an unassisted goal in the 10th minute to open the scoring. NCU would outshoot MLC 9-5 in the first half and the Rams advantage held at 1-0 at the break.
NCU would begin creating more chances in the second half. Sparrman would convert a penalty kick in the 56th minute and it would prove to be the eventual game winner. The Knights fought for a goal that came in the 87th minute from Danielle Hall. However, the Rams saw the game out and took home the victory.
North Central earned a 20-8 shot advantage including an 11-3 differential in the second half. Sophomore Heather Campbell (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) stopped two of the three shots she faced in earning her second victory in net this season.
Sparrman's brace gives her nine goals over her first seven contests in a Rams uniform. She is currently the leading goal scorer in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and also leads the league with 19 points after the first three weeks of the season.
The Rams will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minn.). NCU and Crown will kick off their UMAC conference game at 4:15 p.m.
