Volleyball Finishes in 8th Place at Spikefest

Ankeny, Iowa-- The North Central University Volleyball team continued play at Spikefest on Saturday as they dropped a pair of games to Hillsdale Baptist College and Cottey College.

In the first match of the day, the Rams took on the Saints from Hillsdale Baptist College (Moore, Oklahoma). North Central could not recover from a slow start in set one as they lost the match 0-3 (7-25, 27-29, 16-25).

NCU (1-4) had a strong perfermance in the loss from junior Karlee Huber (Rapid City, S.D./Dakota Wesleyan Univ.) who led the team with ten kills and a hitting percentage of .182. Huber also had two service aces in the contest.

Junior Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, Minn/Concordia Academy) led the Rams with 25 assists and 12 digs.

In North Central's second game of the day, they took on the Comets from Cottey College (Nevada, Missouri). The Rams (1-5) lost the match 0-3 (19-25, 15-25, 20-25). 

Huber, once again led NCU with nine kills to go along with a team-high 16 digs.

Freshman Rebekah Johnson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) started for the first time in her Rams career and recorded a game-high four aces to go along with seven digs and seven assists in the loss.

North Central was given a strong offensive attack from junior Katie Strand (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo) who had seven kills in the match and a hitting percentage of .115.

With four losses over the 2-day event, the Rams finished Spikefest in 8th place.

The Rams continue action on Tuesday as they host Macalester College (St. Paul, Minn.) at Clark-Danielson Gymnasium in Minneapoils. The match begins at 7 p.m.
