Box Score Minneapolis, Minn.-- North Central University Volleyball may have faced their toughest test of their non-conference schedule Tuesday night as they hosted the Scots of Macalester College.
The Rams (1-6) seemed energized by the high level of competition and fought tough throughout the match before losing to the Scots (Saint Paul, Minn.) by a score of 3-0 (14-25, 19-25, 22-25).
North Central continued to get strong play from their outside hitter Karlee Huber (Rapid City, S.D./Dakota Wesleyan Univ.) as she recorded a game-high ten kills and 17 digs in the contest. The Rams also had strong offensive attacks from senior Karlee Cox (Des Moines, Iowa/Saydel), with eight kills and sophomore Ashley Kelzer (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer), who posted six kills in the loss.
Junior Elissa Pheneger (Roseville, Minn/Concordia Academy) helped set up this attack with a team-high 24 assists to go along with an ace and nine digs.
Senior Whitney Reames (Vassar, Mich./Vassar) was strong on the defensive end as she had 14 digs in the match.
North Central recorded 29 total kills in the match as Macalester (6-1) recorded 36 kills. The Scots also had eight blocks in the match, while NCU was unable to block any of Macalester's powerful attacks.
The Rams continue action this Thursday as they host the NCU Invite at the Clark-Danielson Gymnasium in Minneapolis. North Central starts play with a match against Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, Iowa) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, followed by an 8 p.m. contest against Providence University College- Manitoba.
