Rams Drop Final Conference Game to Yellowjackets

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS – North Central men's soccer finished their regular season in a 2-1 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss to UW-Superior at home in Elliot Park this past Friday. The Rams got behind early but were able to score late in the first half and before the final whistle but ultimately fell to a talented Yellowjackets team.

The Yellowjackets scored both goals within the first 20 minutes (12th and 19th minute) but kept threatening for the remainder of the game. As the first half was coming to an end a bad pass from Superior's backline saw Isaac Smith (St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul) step in front of the defender, win the ball, and slot it past the keeper for the score. Time would run out in the first half with the score 2-1 in favor of Superior. In the first half Superior had more goal scoring chances outshooting the Rams 11-4.

The second half saw no goals for either team as both defenses and keepers were able to able to make stops in front of the net. For Superior their defense lived up to the name not allowing the Rams with a single shot on goal in the second half. On the other side of the field, Gabe Hartwig (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) had six saves in the second half making stops that kept the Rams alive and a chance at a comeback. However, at the final whistle the Yellowjackets took the match 2-1 over the Rams.

With this game the Rams conclude the regular season with an 11-6-1 record overall and 3-3-1 record in the UMAC. The Rams are eligible for postseason competition within the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). The Regional tournament will be held at Faith Baptist Bible College which is located in Ankeny, Iowa. Game time and dates are to be determined.
