Box Score SAINT PAUL, Minn. – North Central University's men's basketball team lost 92-70 to Macalester College Scots Tuesday night in the first game of the 2016-17 season. Travis Voigt (Green Bay, Wis./NEW Lutheran) lead the Rams with 26 points, five assists, and five rebounds for the Rams. CJ Lewis (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy) tallied 16 points, three rebounds, and two steals in this debut for the Rams.
1st Half: The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Scots with quick play from the wings and aggressive shooting. The Scots would get back into the game with two easy buckets. Both teams exchanged the lead until the 12th minute when CJ Lewis got the turnover and converted an easy layup tying the game at 12 points apiece. North Central lead the game for the rest of the half. Voigt lead the Rams with 11 points and 3 rebounds at the half. Lewis also added seven points for the Rams and two steals to help the Rams maintain the lead over the Scots.
2nd Half: The Scots regained the lead at the start of the second half with back to back three pointers extending the lead to 43-38. The Rams would keep the game close until a series of missed 3-point opportunities, a turnover, and successful Scots shooting resulted in lead difference of nine points, 53-42. Missed opportunities and fouls plagued the Rams offense as the Scots lead began to widen. Macalester scored 28 points from the free throw line off 35 attempts. The Scots would lead by as many as 19 points with 5:00 left in the half 78-59 before finishing the game with a 22-point margin. Macalester also had two athletes reach the 1,000 career point milestone in the win on their home court.
North Central will be back in action on Friday evening for the 2016-17 home opener in Clark-Danielson Gymnasium against Central College (Iowa) at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video can be found here.
