Box Score 2 PLYMOUTH, Minn.-- Rams softball got back to game action on Friday in a pair of games at the Plymouth Creek Dome. North Central was defeated 8-0 by Maranatha Baptist University in game one before being defeated 14-1 by Martin Luther College in the second game.
North Central (0-4, 0-0 UMAC) fell behind in the first inning against Maranatha Baptist (Watertown, Wis.) and spent the rest of the game trying to get their offense going. Sophomore Abbey Erzberger (Milwaukee, Wis./Christian Heritage) recorded the Rams first extra base hit of the year to lead off the first but ended up as one of North Central's five runners left on base for the game.
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the second, NCU had runners on first and third with one out looking to get on the board. But a hard line drive to the second baseman was turned into a double-play that ended the the Rams threat and North Central ended up going down in five innings to the Sabercats. Sophomore Danelle Pageler (Warren, Minn./Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) was 1-1 on the day joining Erzberger as the only Rams to record hits on the day.
In game two the Rams fell behind 1-0 after the first half inning but recovered in the bottom of the frame. Junior Holly Pieper reached base on an error with one out already on the books and then stole second. Then with two outs freshman Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill/Matea Valley) smacked her first career hit as a Ram, an RBI single through the left side, that score Pieper and tied the game 1-1 after an inning.
Martin Luther added three more in the second and blew the game open in the third with seven and the Rams never got the bats going. Sophomore Samantha Bergum (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) joined Sullivan as the only other Rams with a hit in game two. North Central did have at least one base runner in four of their five plate appearances but could not get any across, stranding five runners on the day.
The Rams will be back in action next Saturday as they travel to Coe College (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). The conference double-header is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
