Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS-- Rams softball was defeated in both games of a home Upper Midwest Athletic Conference double-header on Tuesday. Northland College one game one at East Phillips Park 14-3 in five innings before pulling away for an 11-5 win in game two in seven innings.
Northland College (Ashland, Wis.) jumped out in the first, 1-0, but the Rams had a response in their part of the frame to tie it up 1-1 after a full inning. The Lumberjills created distance in the second and third with seven more runs. They sealed the game with six additional runs in the fourth and fifth inning before North Central managed to get back a pair in their final at bat.
Sophomore Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) was one of just two Rams to hit safely and went 2-2 at the plate with 2 RBI. Freshman Hannah Pfadt (Eastern Shore, Mary./Chestertown Christian Academy) was 1-1 with a hit that helped spark the Rams fifth inning run scoring rally.
In game two Northland started fast again with three runs in the top of the first. However, North Central answered right back with three of their own and the game was tied after one full inning.
The Jills got three more in the second and the Rams went quietly in the bottom of the inning. NCU rebounded to hold Northland scoreless in the top of the third before getting two back in the bottom of the inning and it was 6-5 through three.
Both teams were scoreless in the fourth before Northland slowly created some distance. They got two in the fifth, one in the sixth and another pair in the seventh to seal their victory.
Sophomore Danelle Pageler (Warren, Minn./Warren-Oslo-Alvarado) was 3-3 with 2 RBI. Freshman Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill./Matea Valley) was 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Sophomore Amanda Roth (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) was 2-4.
North Central gets back to action tomorrow with road double-header in UMAC play. The Rams are at Bethany Lutheran College for a 3 p.m. first pitch against the Vikings.
