Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS-- North Central University Baseball was swept in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference double-header on Tuesday. The Rams were defeated 16-2 and 11-0 by Northland College at their home field at Wintercrest Park.
In game one the visiting Lumberjacks led 3-0 through three innings before breaking open the game. Northland (Ashland, Wis.) pounded the Rams for eight runs in the fourth and North Central did not post a response.
Northland added another three in the fifth and two more in the sixth before the Rams found their only runs of the double-header. An RBI double from senior Taylor Madrinich (West Bend, Wis./West Bend West) plated a pair in the seventh but that was all NCU could get across in their final rally.
Freshman Cory Kukkola (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills) was 2-3 with a walk. The Ram did get a hit from eight of the nine players who logged plate appearances but left eight runners on base and committed five errors. Freshman Elijah Valder (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) took the loss on the hill for NCU.
In game two, NCU simply never got their offense going posting just three hits and three walks. Northland led 6-0 through three innings and cruised to the win scoring in six of the seven frames.
Freshman Bobby Donohoe (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) was 1-2 with a double. Junior Matthew Juve (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and Taylor Madrinich were each 1-2.
North Central will get back to action on Saturday with another double-header in UMAC play. They will travel to the University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.) for a scheduled 1:30 p.m. first pitch.
