Box Score WATERTOWN, Wis. – North Central men's soccer opened the 2016 season with a 3-0 road win at Maranatha Baptist. The Rams traveled to face Maranatha in the first NCCAA regional competition between the two teams since the Sabercats joined the North region.
Ian Brekhus (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) started the scoring for the season in the 23rd minute scoring an unassisted goal to put the Rams up 1-0. In the second half the Rams doubled up on goals with help from Dennis Morales (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Kaleb Smith (Kijabe, Kenya / Rift Valley Academy). Morales' goal (assist, Brekhus) came in the 60th minute with a one-on-one with and a quick shot to the right post to beat the Sabercats keeper, Randal Larson. Ten minutes later in the 70th minute Smith chipped the keeper from the left corner. In goal, Gabe Hartwig had four saves for the Rams. The Rams finished the day with 16 shots, 11 shots on goal, and win heading into three games in the next seven days.
North Central will travel to Emmaus (Dubuque, IA) on Saturday September 2nd for 4:00 p.m. game. The Rams return home on Tuesday September 6th for another NCCAA regional game versus Faith Baptist. On Friday September 9th the Rams open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at home versus Martin Luther. Live stats and video for both games can be found here.
