ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – North Central women's soccer earned their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) win on Wednesday afternoon against Crown College, 2-1, in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota. Both Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) and Abby Schwinden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) scored for the Rams to help secure the win.
For the Rams offensive pressure excelled throughout the game with a break though in 23rd minute from a Sparrman goal. The Crown keeper played a high defensive line and when the ball fell at the feet of Sparrman the ball found the back of the net from 30 yards out. The Rams kept building off a tight, structured defensive line and moved the ball through the middle. Seven minutes after the first goal, Abby Schwinden received a pass from Sparrman and touched the ball to her outside foot to curl a shot into the upper frame to bring the lead to 2-0 going into halftime. Despite a strong second half and defensive effort the Storm scored in the 77th minute. The Rams held on in the final minutes to clinch the victory.
North Central women's soccer will be back home on Saturday September 24th versus St. Scholastica in an UMAC matchup. The kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. Live stats and video for the game against St. Scholastica can be found here.
