MINNEAPOLIS – North Central women's soccer fell to the Lumberjills of Northland College 7-0 on Friday afternoon in Elliot Park. While the this is the first meeting between the two teams for the 2016 the game did not count as an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game for either team. The Rams will get a second chance to face the Lumberjills, but this time for conference on October 15 during, North Central's Homecoming Weekend.
In Friday's game the Rams fell behind early as Kaiya Voldberg scored twice for the Jills in the first 10 minutes. The Jills would score twice more in the first half bringing the score to 4-0 after 45 minutes of play. In the second half the Rams held tight on defense until the 64th minute when Heather Jensen (assist: Madeleine Weiland) scored for the Jills. After 90 minutes the game ended 7-0 in favor of the Jills. Northland outshot North Central 23-8 with Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) and Abby Schwinden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) recorded three shots each for the Rams. Sophomore Goalkeeper, Monica Herrera (Capac, Mich./Capac) had eight saves on the day to lead the Rams defensive efforts.
North Central women's soccer will be back in action next week on October 5th at Northwestern University – St. Paul the game is set for 2:00 p.m. Then on October 8th the Rams will travel to play the Knights of Martin Luther. The game against Martin Luther will start the schedule flip for UMAC games where the men's teams will play first followed by the women. The game against Martin Luther will start at 3:15 p.m.
