Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn.-- Women's Basketball posted their first conference win of the year on Friday with a 70-52 victory at Crown College on Saturday evening. The Rams used defense in the first half and ran away with the game in the final quarter in convincing form.
North Central held Crown to just seven first-half field goals and the Storm scored just six points in the second quarter. NCU held a 24-15 advantage at the break. But they got their offense going in the final 20 minutes to seal the win.
The Rams scored 22 and 25 points respectively in the third and fourth quarter and the Storm could not keep up. After Crown got the lead inside ten points, North Central asserted itself and pushed the lead back to 18 with 6:20 to play in the fourth quarter.
After a few more defensive stands NCU managed their lead and wrapped up the win. Junior Lizzy Swanson continued her assault on the North Central scoring records posting a game-high 31 points along with 8 rebounds. Her performance just missed her career high of 32. With 1292 career points, Swanson is now fifth all-time, in NCU history.
Freshman Rachel Stevenson (Ramsey, Minn./PACT Charter) added 13 points, a point shy of her career high. North Central never trailed on the night and shot .468 from the floor while holding Crown to .373 shooting. NCU also won the rebound battle 38-36.
North Central will be back home for a pair of conference games next weekend. Friday Martin Luther College (New Ulm, Minn.) comes to Minneapolis for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. On Saturday Bethany Lutheran College (Mankato, Minn.) is in town for a 3 p.m. match-up.
