Lions End Rams Season With A Loss

HANCOCK, Mich. - In the final game of the season the Rams (6-19, 3-13 UMAC) made a trip to Finlandia University (8-15). Despite 25 points from Lizzy Swanson (Askov, Minn./East Central) the Rams fell to Finlandia, 64-61, in a game that was rescheduled twice before last night's game. Swanson's performance last night was enough to move her into second place all-time in points in North Central University history with 1540 total points. She's now 72 points behind current leader Jamie High who scored 1612 total points in her NCU career. Annebel Morrisroe (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet) recorded a double-double on the night with 10 rebounds and 11 points. 

How It Happened

First Quarter: Swanson scored the first six points of the 10-2 run over the Lions. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Rachel Stevenson (Ramsey, Minn./PACT) helped give the Rams the lead 16-14 at the end of the first.

Second Quarter: Three of Finlandia's first four shots of the the quarter came from 3-point range giving the Lions a quick lead, 25-20. A jumpshot by Sydney Steele (Woodbury, Minn./PACT) and free throws by Swanson closed the Lions lead to 31-24 at half.

Third Quarter: The Lions started the quarter with a 9-2 run which saw their lead widen. Swanson and Stevenson both added four points each.

Fourth Quarter: The Rams and Lions traded buckets in the first four minutes of play. Layups from Amy Hoover (Royalton, Minn./Royalton) and Morrisroe closed the Lions lead to five. The Lions then made back-to-back 3-pointers to extend their lead again. Morrisroe and Swanson combined for the Rams last 10 points of the quarter.

North Central University women's basketball finished their season with a record of 6-19 and 3-13 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. Syndey Steele completed her last year in a Rams uniform as the only Senior. Swanson now resides in second place on the career points leaderboard with 1540 points, 72 behind former teammate and current career points leader Jamie High. Swanson also led the UMAC in points per game with 19.6 ppg with 490 points in 25 games played. Annabel Morrisroe also led the UMAC in rebounds per game with 10.7 rpg with 257 boards in 24 games played in a Rams uniform. This season is head coach Paul Brunner's second year leading the program after a position as interim head coach last season and permanent appointment this fall. The Rams have now begun preparation for the 2017-18 season.
