Roth Homers In Loss to Finlandia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. - North Central University softball (0-12, 0-0 UMAC) hosted Finlandia University (14-9) for a doubleheader on Friday night at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in which the Rams fell to the Lions in game one, 13-3 and in game two, 29-3. The Rams weren't able to overcome the Lions strong pitching to rally a comeback. Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) led the Rams from behind the plate with a double, home run, and three hits at her six at bats for the evening.

How It Happened

Game 1: The Lions got on the board first with five runs in the top of the first. However, the Rams took a run from the Lions in the bottom of the first when Roth was sent home from an error after a hard double into center field. But it was all Lions from the third inning on scoring 8-2 over the Rams in the final three innings. The Lions also had the advantage on the pitching side striking out Rams players nine times through five. Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) and Amanda Roth (twice) recorded hits for the Rams. Roth and Megan Werner (Bellvue, Neb./Cornerstone Christian) scored for the Rams.

Game 2: Fatigue crept in on the Rams in the second game. The Lions got out to the quick lead scoring 11 runs in the top of the first and never reliquished the lead. After the top of the fourth, the Rams were able to get something going offensively when Abbey Erzberger (Milwaukee, Wis./Hertiage Christian) and Bommersbach scored. Then in the bottom of the fifth Amanda Roth homered to left center field. The Rams met Roth at home plate to celebrate and end the game.

Up Next: The Rams will host Finlandia in another double header tomorrow March 25 at 10 a.m. and noon. Both games will be held at The University of Northwestern-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. Live stats for each game can be found here.
