Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. - North Central University softball (0-14, 0-0 UMAC) dropped both contests to Finlandia University (16-9) on Saturday afternoon in the second day of doubleheader action between the two teams held at The University of Northwestern-St. Paul. The Rams fell 15-1 to the Lions in game one and 13-4 in game two. The Lions started strong in the first innings and resurged again in the third and fourth innings. However, the Rams weren't without hits with help from Maddie Parrow (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) the Rams were able to get on base and keep the Rams within reach of a comeback. Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) started and finished both games at pitcher for North Central.
How It Happened
Game 1: The Lions got on the board first going up 3-0 after the first inning. In the second and third innings the Lions managed to keep the Rams from scoring while tallying five more runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Nora Sullivan (Naperville, Ill./Metea Valley) sent a ball straight through center field, and just over the fence before the Lions center fielder Harlie Caster snagged it from the air, sending Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) home for the lone Rams run of the day. Parrow went 2-2 on the day from the plate with hits deep into the outfield. North Central finished the game with four errors to Finlandia's one. Finlandia edged out the Rams 18-4 on hits. Game one ended in five innings.
Game 2: After a huge hitting effort from the Rams in the bottom of the first, North Central led 4-3 through two. In the top of the third the Lions sent three runners home giving them the 6-4 led after the third inning. Despite the Rams strong hitting efforts the Lions kept North Central from scoring the remainder of the game. Amanda Roth had one run, two hits, and a RBI in her three at bats. Abbey Erzberger (Milwaukee, Wis./Hertiage Christian) also scored a run but added one hit and two RBI's before the final pitch. Finlandia outhit the Rams 18-7 in game two.
Up Next: North Central softball will be back in action on Saturday April 1 when they host Crown College in a doubleheader at 1 and 3:15 p.m. The Rams will then host St. Scholastica on Wednesday April 5 for a doubleheader at 3:30 and 5:45 p.m. Home games are held in East Phillips Park just a mile from campus.
