Box Score 2 LEESBURG, Fla. – Following the day of spring break softball action, North Central University softball (0-2, 0-0 UMAC) dropped their first two contests 14-0 and 16-0 to St. Vincent (2-1) and Husson (3-2), respectfully. Both games ended after five innings as the Rams offense couldn't keep up with their competition. Amanda Roth (Appleton, Wis./Neenah) started as pitcher in game one for the Rams and Kylee Bommersbach (Sartell, Minn./Sartell) started as pitcher in the game two for the Rams before Roth stepped in as her relief.
How It Happened
Game 1 vs. St. Vincent: The Bearcats offense came out swinging outhitting the Rams 7-1 and tallying seven runs after one inning. In the second inning, the Bearcats scored two unearned runs to bring the score line to 9-0 at the end of two. In the third, the Rams Joanna Haseltine (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and Brooke Rayfield (Winona, Minn./Riverway Learning) got on base in their first games in a Rams uniform before the Bearcats retired the side. Bottom of the third saw St. Vincent score two more runs to end the inning 11-0. In the top of the fourth and fifth innings the Rams went 0-3 from the plate as the Bearcats retired the side in quick fashion. The bottom of the fourth saw St. Vincent score three runs to extend the lead to 14-0. St. Vincent outhit the Rams 17-2 in the game. Bearcats pitcher, Kelly Flaherty (W, 1-0) had seven strikeouts in the game.
Game 2 vs. Husson: In the second game the Rams showed steady improvements. Amanda Roth struck out two batters in her 1.2 innings pitched. The Rams had three hits but committed four errors to eventually fall 16-0 to the Eagles in the second game of the day. The Eagles got on the board early securing four runs in the first inning and another run in the second. The Eagles lead 5-0 after two innings before the top of the third inning when the three errors helped give the Eagles another four runs, all unearned. After three innings the Eagles led 9-0. In the fourth inning the Eagles tallied two more runs one before and after North Central sent Amanda Roth to relieve Kylee Bommersbach of her pitching duties. At the end of four innings Husson led 11-0. In the fifth inning, Roth got her two strikeouts of the game despite the Eagles scoring five more runs in the contest. The game ended after five innings with a score of 16-0. The Rams defense allowed fewer hits in the second contest but were still outhit, 14-3.
North Central softball returns to the field on Tues. March 7 in Clermont, Fla. against Roanoke at 10:30 a.m. CST and Lebanon Valley at 2:30 p.m. CST.
