Women's Soccer Starts Season Undefeated

MILWAUKEE - North Central Women's Soccer team opened their 2017 season this weekend on the road for a pair of games against Milwaukee based schools, Mount Mary University Blue Angels and Alverno College Inferno. The Rams faced the Blue Angels on Friday afternoon with a result of 2-1 in favor of North Central. On Saturday afternoon the Rams suited up again which led to a 5-1 rout of the Inferno. The Rams are now undefeated on the season and this is is the first time since the 2012 season the Rams started the season 2-0. North Central also outscored their weekend competition 7-2 with goals coming form Dakotah Sparrman (Apple Valley, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's) and Abby Schwinden (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North).

How It Happened

Game 1 vs. Mount Mary: The first half saw the Rams outshoot the Blue Angels, 7-3 before in the 38th minute of play and sith shot of the half Dakotah Sparrman found the back of the net for the Rams off an assist from Emma Brekhus (Prior Lake, Minn./Prio Lake). Then in the second half after thirty minutes of scoreless play, Sparrman found the net once again for her second goal of the game (76th minute) and season from a Brekhus and Cheyenne Brown (Pinetop, Ariz./Blue Ridge) dual assist. Mount Mary would equalize eight minutes later (84th minute) to make the score 2-1 going with seven minutes left in the game. North Central outshot Mount Mary, 14-7, and held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-1, on the afternoon.

Game 2 vs. Alverno: Tensions and intensity were high from both teams striahgt from kickoff seeing two shots from each team both the 12th minute of play when the third shot from North Central resulted in a goal from Sparrman with an assist from Brown. Nine minutes later, Alverno tied the game with a goal of their own. Tied at 1-1, Sparrman led the charge down field, dribbled through a series of defenders, and notched a goal in the bottom corner to give North Central the lead. The Rams led 2-1 at half before scoring three more goals in the the half, two from Sparrman and one in the final minutes of play from Abby Schwinden from outside the penalty box to secure the Rams lead. North Central outshot Alverno, 27-7 en route to their second win of the season.
