MINNEAPOLS – NCU women's soccer [4-5, 1-4 UMAC] took on the University of Minnesota Morris [4-5-1, 2-2-1 UMAC] in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Homecoming Saturday. The Rams were not able to keep up and fell to the visiting Cougars, 5-1.
Minnesota Morris got on the board quickly, netting their first shot on goal in the 6th minute to take the early 1-0 lead. North Central put forth their best effort in the first half defensively as the Cougars got 20 shots and 13 shots on goal, but it was not enough to hold Morris back as they scored again in the 37th and 44th minute to take a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Rams were able to limit Morris to eight shots and four shots on goal in the second half, but ultimately gave up two more goals to go up 5-0. Dakotah Sparrman ended the Cougars attempt at a shutout in the 72nd minute scoring the lone goal with an assist from Linnea Madsen. Minnesota Morris outshot North Central 28 to 12, shots on goal 18 to 10, and corners 13 to 1.
NCU will return to action Tuesday, October 3 as they play host to UMAC opponent, Martin Luther College [4-3-2, 3-0-1 UMAC]. Kickoff is slated for 3:15 p.m. following the men's match.
