Minneapolis, MN -- Rocket League and Super Smash continued their spring season this week as both teams went 1-1 in their matches. Rocket League would drop a close match to Ferris State University and bounce back with a sweep of Keiser University Lakeland. The Rams Super Smash team suffered a sweep to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls but went on to sweep Franklin College. NCU Valorant picked up a win by default as North Dakota State University forfeited the match.
Rocket League vs Ferris State University (2-3 Defeat) - FULL RESULTS
Game 1: NCU - 4 FSU - 5
- The series started with early goals scored by both teams in the first 10 seconds of play.
- From here the match would continue to be back and forth ultimately going into overtime, where FSU would take the first game of the series.
- Blaise "Blaise_C" Crowson had a team-leading 2 goals in game 1.
- Andre "Drae" Muteba also had a goal and led the team in saves with 2.
Game 2: NCU - 2 FSU - 3
- Both teams would play tighter defense in the second game with the first goal being scored halfway through regulation by NCU.
- From here a floodgate would open with FSU and NCU both scoring off kickoffs.
- Returning to a tight defense Ferris State would score a second goal with 15 seconds left putting the series into its second overtime. After a minute of overtime, FSU scored off a rebound from the post winning game 2 and taking a 2-0 series lead.
Game 3: NCU - 3 FSU - 0
- The Rams increased their pace of play in game 3 and allowed Crowson to score and give NCU a 1-0 lead.
- Crowson would earn himself a hat trick as he scored two more goals in game 3 to allow the Rams to take this one from Ferris State.
Game 4: NCU - 1 FSU - 0
- A fire lit for the Rams saw them continue to play fast rotations and despite a more competitive start, NCU would eventually score a goal thanks to Muteba to win game 4 and even the series up at 2-2.
Game 5: NCU - 2 FSU - 3
- Ferris would become more physical in the final game of the series with a crucial bump creating the first goal of the game.
- Muteba would take on 3 defenders to answer with a goal of his own to make it 1-1. However, FSU would be able to retake the lead at 2-1.
- Team play between Crowson and Muteba would tie the game with less than a minute of play and put NCU into the third overtime of the series. Here miscommunication and a bad touch from NCU put the ball in front of the net allowing FSU to take the final game and the series.
Rocket League vs Keiser University Lakeland (3-0 Victory) - FULL RESULTS
Game 1: NCU - 3 KUL - 2
- After losing a match earlier in the night, a fire was lit under the Rams and the team would score two goals in rapid succession to open up game 1 against Keiser.
- Keiser would respond, tying the game in the last minute of gameplay.
- Fortunately, Muteba scored a goal with 13 seconds left to help North Central secure game 1 over Keiser-Lakeland.
Game 2: NCU - 3 KUL - 2
- Coming off an opening win NCU would begin to play more coordinated with a pass from Muteba to Crowson netting the first goal 20 seconds in.
- Crowson would score himself another goal in game 2 at the 3-minute mark.
- Playing further up KULK would score two goals off NCU's stretched defense before Muteba would score a goal out of the air to allow the Rams to retake the lead and take game 2 of the series.
Game 3: NCU - 6 KUL - 2
- The Rams continued to dominate the Seahawks as Crowson scored 6 goals in game 3.
- North Central would be able to complete the sweep of Keiser and take game 3 by a final score of 6-2.
Super Smash vs University of Wisconsin-River Falls (0-2 Defeat)
Game 1: NCU - 9 UWRF - 12 | Game 2: NCU - 6 UWRF - 12
- NCU opened their first-ever in-person crew battle with Rydon "RjFx4" Foldhazi on Megaman. Facing their DK on PS2, he took an early lead by zoning out the monkey. After trading stock for stock, it came down to the last hit. Unfortunately, Foldhazi lost after a risky kill attempt.
- NCU counter-picked their DK with Asher "bulewaras" Winter on Joker. Fighting on PS2, Winter made quick work of the last DK stock, evening out the game.
- UWRF countered NCU's Joker by sending in their Wolf. Dueling on SD, the game was close until the last stock, but in the end, Winter won out after an early SD by the Wolf.
- River Falls went to finish off North Central's Joker by sending out their Terry. On FD, the Terry made quick work of Winter, finishing him off without dropping a stock.
- The Rams sent out Josiah "Joey" Ciseneros next to play Mario. Taking the Terry to FD, Ciseneros kept a close first stock but eventually fell after taking one himself.
- North Central sent out its captain and anchor, Phillip "wtrPHILter" Graham next. NCU's Rob fought UWRF's Terry on Battlefield, taking an early stock with a spike. Graham dropped one of his own to a ledge trap before finishing out the game with a reversal after an attempted ledgeguard.
- River Falls anchored with their Kazuya, taking Graham to PS2 for the final match of game one. Graham dropped his first stock to an SD, and the Kazuya finished out the game with a down smash spike.
- NCU opened game two with Foldhazi playing Megaman. Once again, he fought the DK on PS2, and once again he fell short, but not before taking two stocks.
- The Rams sent out Winter next, hoping to repeat the last game. Unfortunately, the DK felt confident about Kalos, taking Winter's stocks but not before he got him to kill percent.
- North Central sent out Graham next on ROB, hoping to finish off the DK on Smashville. NCU's captain took out their opener, but not before dropping two of his own.
- UWRF sent out their Wolf next, taking Graham on at Kalos. Going hit got hit, Graham eventually went down first to a down smash two frames.
- NCU sent out Benjamin BTGing Piasecki on his Snake to anchor this game. Fighting their wolf on small batt, Piasecki took the first stock with a solid ledge trap. After losing his first to an SD, he kept the game alive, winning out with a single stock remaining.
- River Falls sent out their Kazuya next. Fighting on PS2, the Kazuya built up a quick percent lead with a couple of combos before Piasecki lost out to an SD as UWRF took the game from NCU.
Super Smash vs Franklin College (2-0 Victory)
Game 1: NCU - 12 FC - 7 | Game 2: NCU - 12 FC - 11
- Rydon "RjFx4" Foldhazi opened NCU's game at home this week on his classic Megaman. Fighting their Young Link on small batt, he made quick work of their first stock. After an SD on the Young Link's second stock, Foldhazi closed out the game without dropping a stock.
- Foldhazi continued, trying to press his advantage while taking on their bowser on small batt. After some misplays, he dropped two stocks but eventually closed out the game, only taking one hit on his last stock.
- Foldhazi pressed on, fighting their Marth on Kalos. Trading hit for hit, Foldhazi took the first stock, but couldn't lock in a second before going down, ending his seven-stock run.
- Asher "bulewaras" Winter came out next for NCU, revealing a new character in his Sonic. He sought to finish off their Marth, fighting on Kalos once again. They played a close game, trading stock for stock before Winter took the game with a single stock remaining.
- Franklin sent out their Terry as their anchor, looking to finish off Winter on Small Batt. The Terry used his strong advantage state to close out Winter's last stock.
- North Central sent out Benjamin BTGing Piasecki on his Snake next, looking to close out the game. After an early lead by their Terry, Piasecki made the adaption and closed out the game with two stocks remaining to take game one.
- NCU's captain, Phillip "wtrPHILter" Graham, decided to open the second game on his Classic Rob. FC opened on their Young Link and took Graham to PS2. After taking a mere seven percent while taking the first stock, the Rams captain finished out the game without reaching a hundred percent.
- Graham continued against Franklin's Bowser on Smashville, taking another early lead against their second player. He cleanly took the first two stocks. He played safe and smart, finishing out the game without dropping a stock once again.
- Graham pressed on, fighting their Marth on Town. The Marth got the first stock, marking the first stock loss of Graham in this match. They continued to trade stocks, with Graham taking two before losing out to some low percent falls, ending his eight-stock run.
- Josiah "Joey" Ciseneros came out next on his classic Mario. He dueled the Marth on PS2, going hit for hit and staying mostly even through the first stock. Ciseneros took advantage of a good advantage state and closed out the game without dropping a stock.
- Ciseneros fought on, taking on their Terry at Smashville. After an unfortunate SD, Ciseneros fought hard, getting the Terry up to a high percent but not being able to close out a stock before going down.
- Piasecki went out next on his Joker, fighting their anchor on small batt. After going down early, he managed to take a stock before going down.
- Foldhazi went out next, bringing back the Inkling from last season. After a quick warm-up and some circle camping, Foldhazi started trading stocks. Going down to both players being at last stock, Foldhazi won out in the end after a roll read to allow North Central to sweep Franklin College.
