Minneapolis, MN -- North Central University Women's Volleyball Head Coach,
Faith Ooms, has announced her resignation from NCU. Ooms will be wrapping up her current responsibilities before transitioning to being home full-time to care for her three children - Noelle (4), Ezra (2), and newborn Everlee. Her last day at North Central will be Friday, February, 28th.
During her tenure as head coach of the North Central University volleyball program, Faith Ooms made a lasting impact, leading the Rams to new heights. She amassed 81 career wins and guided the team to its first-ever UMAC postseason appearance in 2024. Ooms was a two-time NCCAA Coach of the Year, including her most recent honor in 2024. Under her leadership, the Rams secured the 2020 UMAC Consolation Championship, produced two NCCAA All-Americans, and saw five players earn UMAC All-Conference honors. She also mentored the 2023 UMAC Freshman of the Year and coached more than 10 NCCAA All-Region players. Off the court, Ooms prioritized academic excellence, overseeing a team that earned the 2022 UMAC Academic All-Conference Team Award, with over 40+ UMAC Academic All-Conference honorees and 20+ NCCAA Scholar Athletes. Additionally, her program was frequently recognized for its sportsmanship, winning the UMAC Team Sportsmanship Award four times (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023). Through her dedication and leadership, Ooms helped elevate North Central Volleyball both competitively and academically. Faith also served as North Central's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) starting in 2024.
"North Central University and this volleyball team will always hold such a special place in my heart. In my 8 years here, I have seen the Lord grow this program immeasurably more than I could've ever imagined," said Coach Ooms. I would like to thank George and all the athletic staff for being a team outside of our teams and friends I can collaborate with. I also want to thank NCU for allowing me to do what I love and create talent into testimony. Lastly, I want to thank my current and former players. I love all of you deeply and I can't wait to cheer you on in all your future endeavors."
She exclaimed, "I couldn't have done what I love to do without the amazing leaders on this team, the most openhearted assistant coaches, and most of all, my extremely supportive husband, Kyle. I look forward to a new chapter of focusing on my growing family, but I will always miss investing in these gifted student-athletes. God is not done yet!"
Director of Athletics,
George Arroyo Jr., had this to say about Coach Ooms, "This past season was nothing short of historic, a testament to her dedication and leadership throughout the years. Beyond the achievements, what I will miss most is the way Faith carries herself as a coach - investing in her student-athletes, and setting a standard that will leave a lasting mark on the volleyball program." He continued, "I am personally grateful for her wisdom and leadership during my time of transition to NCU and we wish her and her family nothing but the best in what's ahead!"
Coach Ooms would also like to thank her assistant's
Alex Peterson,
Keturah Miller, and
Ashley Green for their contributions to the program. A special thank you to Coach Peterson, who will be exiting her coaching career after this spring to be with family as well. She is the longest existing coach at NCU, dedicating 10 years to the volleyball program. She has collected over 100 wins for NCU Volleyball and was named NCU Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023.
North Central University Athletics will begin a search for its next women's volleyball head coach immediately.
