Men's T&F in 4th Place, Women in 7th After Day One of UMAC Championships; Isaac Weiers Takes Home High Jump Title

Superior, WI -- The Men's and Women's Track and Field teams from North Central University traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Superior to participate in day one of the 2025 UMAC Indoor Championships. After the first day, the NCU men sit in 4th place and the women are in 7th place. Today was highlighted by several standout performances, including season bests (SB), personal records (PR), a program record, and a meet record (MR). Senior Isaac Weiers delivered a dominant performance in the high jump, breaking both the meet and program records with a height of 2.02m to secure 1st place. His achievement also propels him to #22 in the NCAA Division III rankings this season. Freshman Hunter Harris showcased his talent as well, earning 3rd place with a personal-best jump of 1.88m.

Jumps:

Joyce Horton and Lily Ciske both cleared 1.37m in the high jump, placing 4th and 8th, respectively. In the long jump, freshman Ari Klein recorded a personal best of 4.28m, finishing in 10th place.

In the high jump, senior Isaac Weiers delivered an outstanding performance, setting a new meet and program record with a height of 2.02m, earning 1st place. Weiers moves up the national rankings once again, now #22 in all of NCAA Division III this season. Freshman Hunter Harris also performed well in the high jump, finishing 3rd with a PR of 1.88m. Sophomore Zak Ruhland and senior Nehemiah Juaire tied at 1.78m, placing 7th and 8th, respectively. Harris also had a strong showing in the long jump, placing 4th with a leap of 6.35m.

Throws:

Junior Andre Muteba competed in the weight throw, recording a distance of 9.72 meters in his UMAC Championship debut.

Sprints:

In the 60m prelims, Catelyn Ketterling placed 4th with a time of 8.31 seconds to qualify for the final tomorrow. Freshman Jazzmin Celis ran a PR of 8.62 seconds to finish 9th. Freshmen Ari Klein (10.27) and Joyce Horton (10.32) both qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles, placing 5th and 6th, respectively. In the 400m, Jazzmin Celis (1:05.19) placed 6th, while Joyce Horton (1:05.62) and Lily Ciske (1:06.07) finished 9th and 10th. Savi Rael ran a season-best of 1:07.06.

In the men's 60m prelims, Hunter Harris (7.33, 7th place) qualified for the finals with a new personal best. Nehemiah Juaire also ran PR to finish 10th. Junior Tom Cao competed in the 60m hurdles prelims, clocking 9.89 for 9th place. Harris also ran the 400m in 53.99 seconds, finishing 9th overall.

Distance:

In the women's mile, sophomore Jessica Redman finished 14th overall with a time of 6:13.72. 

Junior Garrett Converse set a PR in the mile, running 4:45.14 to place 6th. Freshman Leighton Helander ran 5:08.86 to finish 13th.

Relays:

The 4x200 meter relay team of Nehemiah Juaire, Tom Cao, Caleb Lundt, and Zak Ruhland placed 4th with a time of 1:40.88. The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team of Colton Hagen, Isaiah Hernandez, Leighton Helander, and David Bjorge finished 6th in 12:51.60.

Looking Ahead:

North Central will complete on Day 2 of the 2025 UMAC Indoor Championships tomorrow, beginning at 11:00 AM.
