Chris Lucas is in his second season as an assistant coach for the NCU Track & Field teams. Lucas oversees the men's and women's hurdlers throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons. Chris began his role on September 2nd, 2024.
Most recently, Lucas was a head coach at the Velocity Xpress Track Club from 2023-24. Here, Coach Lucas helped train Troy Williams (University of North Florida - 400m, 400m Hurdles) and Justice Crawford (Florida A&M University - 400m), both of whom walked on to NCAA Division I programs. He also advised sprinter Taylor Banks to meet the 2024 USATF Summer Olympic Trials Minimum Standard. Prior to this, he served as an Assistant Sprints/Hurdles Coach and Assistant Cross Country Coach at Tallahassee Community College from 2021-23. Coach Lucas helped recruit the largest recruiting class for the upcoming 2024 season for the TCC women's cross country team. In addition, Chris held an assistant coaching role at the RAA Middle School track & field program in Tallahassee, FL for the 2024 season. Here, he led the team to have 9 state qualifiers in the sprints. Coach Lucas currently holds a USATF Level I coaching certificate.
Lucas received his B.A. in Journalism & Communication from Wartburg College in 2021. He was a sprinter and mid-distance runner for the Knights' track & field team, competing in the men's 200m, 400m, and 800m. Chris was a member of the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Team at Wartburg. In 2022, he completed his M.S. in Sports Management from Florida A&M University.
Chris is originally from Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated from North Florida Christian School in 2017, where he competed in Track & Field, Cross Country, and Football.
