Kara Hurst first joined the cross country and track & field programs as an assistant coach in 2013, where she served for one season before coming back to join the program again in 2019.
Hurst started her coaching venture at Carrollton High School in Illinois, where she served as head coach for two seasons. During her tenure, she managed to coach three all-state track & field athletes. Since her stint at NCU, Hurst has coached two athletes that placedÂ
UMAC All-Conference at the 2019 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
As a runner herself, Hurst collected an impressive resume prior to coaching. Hurst ran both cross country and track in high school for four years, and then competed for two seasons at NCU. As of now, Hurst currently holds the cross country and track & field mile records for her high school. As a Ram, Hurst was nominated to the All-
UMAC team her freshman year in 2010, was an
NCCAA National Team Champion and All-American in both 2010 and 2012, and was elected as team captain her senior year in 2012.
From an academic standpoint, Hurst attended North Central University, where she received her bachelor's degree in Urban Studies.
Outside of coaching, Hurst enjoys reading, camping, hiking, and cooking for her friends. She currently is a stay-at-home mom, and lives in Minneapolis with her husband Jordan and two children Castulo and Abel.
