MiCayla Jones enters her first season as an assistant coach for the NCU Track & Field teams. Jones will oversee the men's and women's throwers throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons.Â
Jones returns to coach at NCU after completing a 5-year decorated athletic career as a Ram. MiCayla was a three-sport student-athlete at North Central, competing in track & field (5 seasons), basketball (4 seasons), and golf (2 seasons). In track & field, she currently holds the program record in the weight throw (13.48 m) and the hammer throw (41.49 m). Jones finished 12th overall at the 2024Â NCCAAÂ Outdoor National Championships in the women's hammer throw. She also competed in the shot put, discus, and javelin throw throughout her career. MiCayla excelled in the classroom, earning UMAC Academic All-Conference in track & field (5x), basketball (2x), and golf (2x) and was named a 2024Â NCCAA Scholar Athlete. She also earned the UMAC Sportsmanship Award in Indoor T&F (24') and golf (21').Â
MiCayla most recently graduated from the North Central University this past May with a Master's degree in Strategic Leadership. In 2022, she completed her Bachelors in American Sign Language Interpreting with a minor in Sports Management from NCU.Â
Jones is originally from the west side of Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the De La Salle Institute in 2018. In addition to coaching, MiCayla also works as a Deaf Blind Intervener with Intermediate District 287. Coach Jones is an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loves to watch and attend numerous different sporting events, and enjoys spending time with family and friends.Â
