Rams Bats Silenced in East Phillips Park Opener

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.-- Softball played their first outdoor game of the year on Wednesday which also served as the debut of their new home field at East Phillips Park in South Minneapolis. The Rams could not capitalize on their new digs and struggled to get any offense going while being swept by Northland College in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference double-header.

Game one saw the Rams keep within reach for most of the game but only recorded one hit and managed just four base runners in a 7-0 loss to Northland College (Ashland, Wis.). The Jills were up just 2-0 after after three innings but the Rams never got any offense going. Sophomore Meryn Garvey (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt) was the only NCU player with a hit and she stole second during that same inning.

Game two was similar for NCU in the batters box but the Jills jumped out on NCU right away to lead 7-0 after three innings before going on to win 10-0 in five innings. Once again Meryn Garvey was the only Ram to hit safely in the game. She also pitched both games in the circle.

North Central will get the chance to redeem their new home field advantage on Friday when they host The University of Minnesota-Morris (Morris, Minn.) at 3 p.m. for a UMAC double-header.
