ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) volleyball team just proved to everyone that Friday night lights aren't always meant for football to be in the spotlight. In route to capturing their fourth win in a row, the Rams stole their first
UMAC win of the season against the Crown College Storm 3 sets to 1. With a massive conference win now under the Rams' belt, they are headed on the right track to continue their incredible season and keep turning heads.
Game Recap
The Storm are no stranger to the Rams volleyball team as they met earlier in the season in a non-conference matchup. After a long break from their previous match almost a week ago, the Rams started slow in this one by dropping the first set to the Storm. From then on, however, it was a completely different story. A well-rounded NCU volleyball squad refused to let the first set dictate their play the rest of the match. A steady balance of offense and defense during the next three sets led the Rams to finding success in all areas of the match. The two teams did split quite evenly in total team statistics on the night, but that did not impact the Rams' momentum to carry them the rest of the way. NCU took advantage of opportunities they had in certain sets and capitalized exceedingly well in those moments. With this clutch late-set play, NCU ended up taking the next 3 sets against Crown College on own court to seal a vital conference win for the Rams.
Key Performer(s):
- Cydonia Rue led all attackers on the night with 10 kills. The Outside Hitter from Hopkins High School was a solidifyed piece to the Rams' game plan as she managed to clip 11 digs as well in the matchup.
- Hannah Fischer recorded 5 service aces to continue her dominance from the service line. Fischer currently ranks #1 in the UMAC with a 0.93 average of service aces per set, which is nearly doubled compared to the rest of the field.
Looking Ahead
The NCU volleyball team now sits at an exceptional record of 9-7 (1-0
UMAC) on the 2019 season. Excitement continues to swirl around this team as their dedication to honing in on their craft has already led the NCU volleyball team to one of their most successful seasons in recent years. The Rams will look to keep their winning streak going as they head up north to Duluth, Minn. next Tuesday and take on the College of St. Scholastica Saints in another crucial
UMAC matchup.
