MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team notched its first win of the season in dominant fashion, handing Mount Mary University (MMU) a 75-50 loss. On the night, North Central was led by sophomore
Naomi Hagstrom who finished the night with 22 points and six rebounds. Furthering the Rams effort was junior
Allison Bulthuis who tallied 17 points and seven assists. Senior captain,
Betty Rand, helped round out the scoring punch with seven points on the evening.
In the first quarter of play, North Central found itself in a back-and-forth contest, exchanging leads throughout before finishing the quarter with a 19-16 advantage. North Central was paced in the quarter by Hagstrom, but found contributions throughout its lineup as six different Rams players notched points on the scoreboard. Defensively,
Emily DiGiorgio provided a much needed spark in the quarter as she proved to be too much to handle after recording two blocks for the Rams.
The game continued to see the Rams battling tooth-and-nail for every possession as MMU kept the score close for most of the second quarter. Mount Mary could only hold it close for so long though as the Rams bench outclassed the opposition in dominant fashion down the stretch.
Alice Cato and
Bailey Brewster both provided substantial minutes off the bench, giving the Rams multiple defensive rebounds to finish the half.
During the third and fourth quarters, NCU inflicted its will upon Mount Mary, eventually extending the lead to a 25 point win for the Rams. North Central would see 11 different players tallies points for the team, with 14 athletes seeing action. The Rams will look to carry this momentum into next week's home matchup against Hamline University on Tuesday, November 19th. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the game will air live on ncurams.com.
