MINNEAPOLIS – After their first
UMAC win earlier in the week, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team looked to capitalize off their well-earned momentum. The Rams played host to the conference-powerhouse University of Wisconsin, Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon. In a matchup that saw incredibly efficient shooting from both sides, the Rams dropped the home contest by a final score of 76-63.
Game Recap
UWS had the hot hand in this one, but NCU did not go down without showcasing their own strengths. From the opening tip, the Rams attempted to slow down the Yellowjackets' offensive attack but ran into tough sledding. Superior did a great job of getting their buckets from a mix of fast breaks in transition and their half-court sets. The, Rams had trouble handling the efficient scoring from the Yellowjackets, who shot an impressive 40% from behind the arc. This sustained through all four quarters of action and eventually led UWS to the victory in a high-scoring affair. Even though Rams dropped this conference matchup against Superior, they showed promising flashes throughout the course of the game. The Rams responded well to big offensive runs made by the Yellowjackets. This will be a vital piece to their chemistry as a team moving forward into the rest of their
UMAC play.
Key Performer(s)
- Naomi Hagstrom led the Blue and Gold in more ways than one with an impressive stat line of 16 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.
- Junior forward Alice Cato solidified her presence in the post. Cato cleared 9 rebounds in 22 minutes of action to help the Rams get out in transition and put pressure on the Yellowjacket defense.
Looking Ahead
As the Rams now sit at a respectable 3-4 overall record (1-1
UMAC), they will head into their next matchup looking to get back in the win column. NCU will face the Martin Luther College Knights in another pivotal conference showdown in the prime-time slot of 7:15 p.m next Wednesday. Fans can stay posted across all of the Rams social media platforms (
