MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – North Central University (NCU) was in action on a chilly Saturday afternoon under the sunny skies of Minneapolis, Minnesota for a matchup with the Lakers of Silver Lake College. The Rams continued to stack on runs in game one as they finished the Lakers off in five innings to secure their first win of the season. Game two was a battle for both clubs, but it was the Lakers who were able to overcome an early Lakers lead thanks to a late game scoring explosion as they finished the series sweep with a 12-4 victory over Silver Lake College.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Rams were the first to strike in game one thanks to a Laker's error that scored run number one and Carissa Garza followed that run up with a single that scored another. Errors were the story of the ball game for the Lakers, making it difficult to maintain the NCU offense. The Rams continued to capitalize on the Lakers misfortune building their lead up to eleven runs in the fourth inning, their largest of the game. The Lakers produced one run in the top half of the 5th inning, but it wasn't quite enough to stretch out the game as the Rams finished off Silver Lake by a score of 11-1 in just five innings. Emma Bushey (W, 1-8) picked up her first win of the year on the mound as she finished her 5.0 innings pitched with 8 strikeouts. Catcher, Megan Paulson , led all Rams batters from the plate as she brought knocked three runs in during the ballgame.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Lakers started game two with a newfound spark as they jumped out to an early 3-0 through the first two innings. The Rams weathered the storm as they answered with a seven run 4th inning to steal the lead and the momentum. After surpassing the Lakers, NCU did not look back, notching four more runs in the 6th inning to walk it off and top Silver Lake by a score of 12-4 to finish the series sweep. Ali Cornelius (W, 1-7) led the Rams on the mound as she secured her first win of the year with 9 strikeouts in her 6.0 innings pitched. Errors once again played a major factor as Silver Lake committed seven blunders throughout the contest.
Next Up
The Rams will be back in action at Xcel Field Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota, next week as they square off against Northland College. That non-conference doubleheader is set for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
