Rams Fall to the Pioneers on Final Day of Spring Trip

TUCSON, Ariz. – North Central University (NCU) battled the Pioneers of Carroll University for their final day of games on their 2019 spring trip. The Pioneers connected on two total homeruns early in the ballgame to help build their lead. Behind an impressive performance from Carroll's right hander on the mound, Cameron Godinsky, the Pioneers were able to silence the Ram's lineup for much of the game and pull away for an 11-1 victory.

GAME VITALS
  • Rams struggled defensively suffering 4 errors throughout the ball game
  • Carroll out hit the Rams 14-6
  • The loss drops the Rams to 0-4 on their trip to Arizona

GAME RECAP

Both ball clubs made some noise in the first inning with the Rams striking first blood. Steven De Silva got Rams started with a triple, which was followed by a ground out by Brandon Scott, but De Silva was able to get home to take the early lead. Carroll was quick to answer in the bottom half of the inning with a two run home run. After some noise in the first frame, both teams went silent on the offensive end failing to bring runners across the plate.

The Pioneers broke the game's scoreless streak in the fourth inning with a four run explosion to open up their lead to five runs behind a three-run shot over the LF wall. NCU threatened to close the gap in the sixth inning with two runners on and no outs, but the attempt was foiled by an incredible diving catch turned into a double play throwing out the runner. The Ram's hitters could not find an answer for Carroll's righty, failing to find any holes in the Pioneer defense throughout the end of the ballgame as they would fall by a score of 11-1.

Senior, Brandon Scott, led all Ram's hitters with a 1 for 2 performance and a run batted in. His lone hit moves him to seven total on the year and a .375 average. Michael Barrientos (L, 0-2) received the starting nod for the second time throughout the week and finished with 5 earned runs on 8 hits in 6.0 innings pitched in the loss.

NEXT UP
NCU will head back to Minnesota just in time for a snow storm. The Team's next contest is scheduled for next week against Crown in a non-conference battle that is up in the air due to the weather.
