Rams Suffer Narrow Sweep at the Hands of the Yellowjackets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SUPERIOR, Wis. – North Central University (NCU) was on the road in Wisconsin once again, this time they headed to Superior on Saturday afternoon to square off with the University of Wisconsin Superior. The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early lead in game one, but the Rams came roaring back to give Superior somewhat of a scare, but NCU did not have enough in the tank to finish off the comeback falling by a score of 8-6. The Rams attempted to flip the script in game number two as NCU stole the early lead, but it was the Yellowjackets making a late game push and eventually outlasting the Rams as they took game two 7-5 for the win and series sweep.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Rams were the first to strike in game number one as Brandon Scott got NCU rolling early with a shot over the fence for his second home run of the season and the 1-0 lead. Affter falling behind in the first frame, the Yellowjackets quickly answered with a counter punch. Superior scored three runs in the bottom half of the first and added another in the following inning to push their lead to 4-1. After a quiet inning number three, the Yellowjackets did what they could to try and pull away from NCU in the 4th as reigning UMAC Player of the Year, Cody Albertson, connected on a massive grand slam pushing their lead to 8-1, their largest of the game. The Rams made a late game push, rattling off 5 unanswered runs. The comeback push was spearheaded by freshman Michael Barrientos who knocked in two of the five runs scored. Although NCU was able to cut the deficit to just two, they ran out of innings as the Yellowjackets were able to fend off the Rams by a score of 8-6.

GAME TWO RECAP
Both teams struggled to find a spark through the first two innings as the ball game was still knotted up at 0-0 heading into the 3rd frame in game number two. After a sacrifice fly gave the Rams the lead in the top half of the third and starter Bryce Riege tossed another scoreless inning, the Rams looked to be in a good spot. However, after looking quite comfortable through three innings, the Superior offense started to figure out Riege from the plate. The Yellowjacket offense broke out for four runs off of the right hander in the bottom half of the 4th inning, knocking the senior out of the contest. After losing their early lead, the Rams tested the Yellowjacket pitchers but they could not quite get over the hump to regaining the lead. For the second straight game the Rams scored two runs in the 9th inning, but for the second straight game, it proved to be to little too late as they fell to Superior 7-5 in game number two.

Next Up
North Central will be off until Tuesday, April 30th, as they will host their final home matchup of the season. The Rams are set to do battle with the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College at Wintercrest Park in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. There will be a ceremony before the first pitch to honor this years senior class.
