Volleyball pulls off incredible comeback against Macalester

MINNEAPOLIS -- North Central University (NCU) women's volleyball was back in action on Tuesday night, where they clashed with the Scots of Macalester College. With a massive crowd on-hand for this MIAC-UMAC cross-conference matchup, the Rams pulled off an incredible comeback after being down 2 sets to 0, and ended up stealing the victory 3 sets to 2 (15-25, 22-25, 28-26, 25-17, and 15-10). With this win, the Rams volleyball program continues their hot and undefeated start to the season, and now sits at an impressive record of 3-0 headed into the bulk of their schedule.

Game Recap

The match started off with the Rams fighting hard with the Scots in every aspect of the game. Early in the match, the Scots managed to steal the first two sets quickly with an offensive attack that synchronized well for their outside hitters. However, after being down early in the contest 2 sets to 0, the Rams fired on every cylinder from there on out as they swept the Scots in the remaining three sets to win the match 3-2. With their backs against the wall in every set during this incredible run, it goes to show that this program is willing to do what it takes to compete at the highest level of college volleyball. The match was highlighted by the third set, where the Rams clawed their way back from down from 24-21 and ended up pushing the Scots to further points to secure the set 28-26. This particular set emphasized the massive momentum shift the Rams needed to push them through the rest of the match while continuing to have their backs against the wall. The defensive presence provided by the Rams gave them a fighting chance to continue attacking the rest of the night into the fifth set. The Rams excelled in every aspect of the match, which was foundational to their success in this astonishing comeback in a thrilling back-and-forth battle.

There were multiple players who filled up the stat sheet and produced big nights. The Rams were led by Sophomore, Outside Hitter Hannah Fischer, who had an unbelievable night in a number of fashions. The Wanamingo High School product was on fire on the court tonight. She led all players and recorded 4 service aces throughout the contest, to go along with her 13 digs and 10 kills on 34 total attacks. Making her first true impact for the Rams was Freshman, Middle Blocker Bria Reiserwho also sparked the Rams' offense with 10 kills of her own. She also managed to put up 6 blocks on the night, which provided the Rams with inside leverage on the net. Rachel Beckman was able to do her part in the Rams attack as well. She kept up her consistent setting, and managed another 18 assists on the night.

Key Performers:
  • Hannah Fischer provides an all-around impact for the Rams where she records 4 aces, 13 digs, and 10 kills.  
  • Bria Reiser makes her way onto the collegiate scene in a healthy combination of offense and defense. She stats 10 kills to go along with 6 blocks on the night.
  • Rachel Beckman continues to provide assists all along the net, with a grand total of 18.
Looking Ahead

The Rams will return to practice the rest of this week in anticipation of a packed weekend ahead. They travel on the road to Mailwaukee, WI, where they have 4 total matches against a number of schools around the Midwest, all apart of the Blue Angels Volleyball Tournament hosted by Mount Mary University. This Friday, the Rams have a doubleheader on the table set for 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. against Eureka College and Iowa Wesleyan University, and will strive to continue their dominant season thus far.
