MINNEAPOLIS – Fresh off a win earlier in the week against the Blue Angels of Mount Mary University, the Rams continued their homestand when they hosted on the always competitive Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) Sabercats on Thursday night. In a game of constant action and big shots hit from both sides at multiple points, NCU dropped a heartbreaker in the final seconds by a final score of 63-64.
Game Recap
Another grueling matchup with 40 minutes of hard-fought action was showcased during the night by both sides. Early on, it was the Rams who held the lead in the first quarter by a score of 15-9. From then on, however, the Sabercats showed tremendous ball movement and efficiency that guided them to hold onto the lead almost the rest of the way. In the second half, the Rams found themselves down double-digits, but they showed massive heart and resilience and managed a comeback late in the fourth quarter. The Sabercats were pressured by the Rams' defensive presence, which forced a few crucial turnovers in the favor of the Blue and Gold. This then led to the Rams hitting a few huge fast-break shots down the stretch. With just over 2 seconds to go, the Rams were only down one and managed to get a good look at the basket that just seemed to have rimmed out. Even though their heroic comeback fell just short, this game is a testament to the Rams' perseverance, which will give them something to build off of heading into
UMAC play.
Key Performer(s)
- Dropping her career-high in points, Naomi Hagstrom was lights-out during the contest. The former UMAC Freshman of the Year put on a firework display by shooting 7 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc en route to recording a double-double of 33 points and 10 rebounds. Hagstrom will continue showcasing herself as one of the greatest all-around scoring threats in the UMAC with her efficient shooting and astounding play as of late.
- Emily DiGiorgio also contributed heavily to the Rams' offensive success, as she posted her fifth double-double of season with 15 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 4 blocks on the night.
