Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rams come up short on the road at Dubuque

MINNEAPOLIS, -- North Central University's (NCU) men's basketball team tipped off this afternoon for their first matchup of 2021. The NCU Rams made the trip to Dubuque, Iowa to face off against the University of Dubuque (UD) Spartans in what would be a tough battle for the blue and gold. UD was able to hold NCU to 68 in tonight's contest, ultimately walking away with a 98-68 win over the Rams.

Game Recap

The game started with a few lead changes, but UD pulled ahead of the Rams and kept that lead a majority of the competition. The Spartans were able to secure 41 rebounds over the Rams' 36, leading to 18 second chance points and fast break opportunities. This, along with 16 points off of turnovers, helped UD pull away with the lead in the first half and maintain the lead for the rest of the game.

Despite Micah Filer (Sacramento, CA, Capital Christian High School) going 4-6 from 3-point range, the Spartans were able to keep up with the Rams ranged offensive efforts, ending the game with the same number of made 3-point shots. Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, CO, The Vanguard School) put up a fight inside of the arc, connecting on 7 field goals in relentless attacks in the paint. In the end, the Rams were unable to overcome the Spartan's lead down the stretch.

Key Performer(s)
  • Seth Fuqua: led all Rams scorers with 18 points
  • Micah Filer : tallied 16 points on an incredibly efficient 66% shooting from long range.
  • Jonathan Thompson (Kansas City, MO, Park Hill South High School): chipped in with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Looking Ahead

Continuing with their resumed 2020-21 campaign, the Rams are on the road again this Saturday in Plymouth, Wisconsin to play Lakeland University, followed by a non-conference affair with Crown College next Tuesday.
