Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wartburg gives North Central their first loss of the season

WAVERLY, Iowa -- The North Central University (NCU) women's basketball team opened up the new year on the road against the Wartburg College Knights (WC) on Friday night. The Rams started out strong by keeping a good pace with the night, but Wartburg proved to be too much in the 100-67 loss.

Game Recap

After a 6-0 start to the season, the Rams looked to continue their undefeated season as they traveled to Iowa to face the Knights. North Central came into the night knowing what would be a tough test, as the Wartburg College Knights finished last season inside the top 10 ranks of NCAA DIII. Giving the Rams their first bucket of the game was guard Joelle Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School). The first quarter was back-and-forth early on, ending with the Knights only up by three. Heading into the half down 11, the Rams continued to battle and stay within striking distance.

Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) was fundamental to North Central's offensive half-court sets, as the Forward contributed eleven points in the first half, and finishing the game with her fifth double-double of the season. Eventually, the depth of the Knights' bench wore the Rams down down the stretch. Four out of five of the Rams' starters played over thirty minutes in their first game back after the holiday break. That said, NCU managed to shoot an impressive 40% from beyond the arc, with Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy), DiGiorgio, and Talso shooting 50% individually. Despite the point differential, the Rams' fighting spirit held strong throughout the entire forty minutes of action, showcasing what is yet to come for the team moving forward as they head into more non-conference action.
