Game Recap
Immediately the tone was set by the Rams after a early goal by
Rodrigo De Mendoza (Panama City, Panama, Crossroads Christian Academy) assisted by
Jerad Buse (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School). It was
De Mendoza's first goal of the season. Shortly after,
Diego Zavala-Varela (Brooklyn Park, MN, Park Center Senior High School) slotted one into the back of the net which was assisted by
Adam Vang (Green Bay, WI, Green Bay Southwest High School). This was also
Zavala-Varela's first goal of the season and consequently his collegiate career. And right before the first half ended, the Storm hand-balled in the box giving the Rams a penalty kick.
Buse floated one right down the center as the goalie dived right anticipating a shot to the corner. This put NCU up 3-0 at halftime.
From then on, the Rams mostly played the possession game, passing the ball effortlessly back and forth in the backline. When the opportunity arose, NCU's offense was ready on the attack and in the 57th minute,
Weston Buckley (Budapest, HU, International Christian School of Budapest) drove a ball right over the keeper's head into the back of the goal, upping the score to 4-0. Because of the positive score, the Rams were able to get some substitutes in and try different formations and different players in different positions. CC was able to sneak in a goal towards the end of the match, but the superior play from NCU on both sides of the field was ultimately too much for the Storm to handle. With this win, the Rams effectively swept CC this season.
