MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team took on Northland College (NC) for the first time this season. Based on the
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) standings, the Rams and the Jills were set to be a competitive matchup and it was. After 110 long minutes, the game ended in a tie, 2-2.
Game Vitals
- The Rams almost had double the number of shots as the Jills had.
- This was NCU's third game in five days.
Game Recap
While NC got a goal within the first minute, the game was far from over. The Rams bounced right back and pushed against the Jill's defense. After the first ten minutes or so, NCU switched to more players in the midfield which greatly helped them control the center of the field. The Jills reached the back of the net again in the 16th minute. Within the first couple minutes she was put in,
Alexis Orlando (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount High School) netted a goal in the upper right corner out of reach of the goalkeeper's hands. The teams went into halftime 2-1 for the Jills with the momentum swinging in the Ram's direction.
Lideeya Lwoy (Willmar, MN, Willmar Senior High School), playing at right back, won many balls for NCU and passed calmly out of pressure to get the offense moving. In the 59th minute,
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) got the ball on the outside wing and crossed it high over NC's goalie, reaching the back post.
Katrina Conrad (St. Paul, MN, St. Croix Lutheran Academy) was able to set it back in towards the goal to the feet of
Mia Wajda (Gejiu, China, Centennial High School) who scored. This was
Wajda's first goal of the season and it tied the Rams up 2-2. The excitement of the second goal gave NCU some much needed energy and they kept pounding away at NC's backline. The Rams had 14 shots in the second half alone, with eight on goal. At the end of regular time, the score was still tied, pushing the game into overtime. Regardless of NCU's persistence, they were shy of a goal, as well as the Jills, and the game ended 2-2 after two ten minute overtimes.
