ASHLAND, Wisc. -- After tying Northland College (NC) earlier in the week, the North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team traveled to the Jills' home turf instead. The
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game was similar as the teams went into double overtime again. However, NC was able to get a goal in the second overtime beating the Rams 1-0.
Game Vitals
- The Rams generated seven corner kicks.
- Between the teams, there were 14 fouls.Â
Game Recap
NCU started off the game hot on the attack combining passes in the middle to distribute out wide. The combination play and creativity for the Rams was amazing to watch and they had many chances to score throughout the game.
Hannah Grubbs (Mantua, OH, Newbury High School) and
Katrina Conrad (St. Paul, MN, St. Croix Lutheran Academy) controlled the outside of the field taking the ball down the line multiple times and beating the defenders to either get a cross or a shot off.
Kara Lewis (Mandeville, LA, Northlake Christian School) was moved centrally and added a much welcomed intensity and physicality. The Rams had much momentum building throughout the 90 minutes and had chance after chance that were just shy of the net.
Grubbs had four shots and
Lewis and
Conrad had two of their own. It was a quiet day for goalkeeper
Arien Fritts (Ham Lake, MN, Fritts Homeschool Academy)Â as she had five saves. One reason for this quietness is
Rachel Lampton (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School).
Lampton held the backline together and stopped many Jills from getting a one on one with
Fritts. In the second overtime, NC was able to get ot the back of the net off of a cross, ending the game 1-0.
