Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball falls in second match of the day

Story Links

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In their second match of the day, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball team took on the Eagles from University of Northwestern (UNW). The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup ended in three sets in favor of UNW (25-18, 25-10, 25-16).

Game Recap

The Rams played pretty evenly with the Eagles in the first set as they traded points and had some lead changes. Both teams had 29 attack attempts in the first set showing the similarity of play and talent for the teams. The Eagles took the second set by a bigger point differential due to multiple to service aces. The Rams came back a little in the third set, but were unable to overthrow UNW.

Throughout the three sets, NCU had only one service error and four service aces led by Alexandria Taylor (Milwaukee, WI, Milwaukee Lutheran High School) with two of her own. Freshman Hailey Lerfald (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo High School) had a solid game with seven kills and an outstanding .357 hitting percentage. The main challenge for the Rams today was finding energy and strength after playing a game the previous night and a game earlier in the day. NCU, despite the amount of games, looked strong and played with intensity, but look forward to a couple days rest.

Key Performers
  • Makayla Krohnberg (Blaine, MN, Blaine High School) led the back court with 11 digs. She also had two kills, one assist, and one service ace.
  • On the net, Hailey Lerfald was at the top of the Rams' stats with seven kills.

Looking Ahead

The Rams will face off against Martin Luther College (MLC) next this Tuesday at 7 pm away. Previously, NCU lost to MLC in five sets in a close, exciting game. All fans are encouraged to tune into official Rams Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages for updates on the volleyball team and much more information.
