Box Score 2 ROCKFORD, Ill. -- In their last weekend of the season, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball team played in the Rockford Tournament. On the first day of the weekend, the Rams swept Maranatha Baptist University (MBU) (25-18, 25-18, 25-18). Shortly after, NCU played the host, Rockford University (RU). The Regents stole this one away from the Rams in three games (25-18, 25-16, 25-22).
Game #1 Recap
The Rams came out on a 5-1 run to start the game. The Sabercats would stop NCU from going on longer runs, but never really got within reach of the win. A number of Rams had some good numbers on the attack at the net.
Morgan Delange (Corsica, SD, Corsica-Stickney High School) and
Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) had seven kills a piece in the three sets. Following them were teammates
Hailey Lerfald (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo High School) and
Makayla Krohnberg (Blaine, MN, Blaine High School) with six kills each.
Krohnberg not only hurt MBU with her kills, but also all the way from the serving line as she had six service aces.
Lerfald stopped many of the Sabercats' attacks with her six blocks, and if MBU was able to get past
Lerfald's hands,
Hannah Fischer (Kenyon, MN, Kenyon Wanamingo High School) was there to clean it up, adding 13 digs for the Rams. NCU dominated in every aspect of the game including a .400 hitting percentage in the second set. MBU never stood a chance against the Ram's superior play.
Game #2 Recap
While RU won this game in three sets, the Rams didn't make it easy for them. The sets had many lead changes that could have gone either way. The third set came down to three points that were just shy of being NCU's.
Grace Brigson (West Salem, WI, West Salem High School) had 24 assists at setter and she was able to set to many different hitters, similar to the previous game.
Delange was at the top with six kills and
DiGiorgio,
Lerfald, and
Bria Reiser (Berlin, WI, Berlin High School) had five kills each.
Reiser came to play in this second game as she also had four blocks to help on the Ram's defense.
Fischer, again, controlled the back court with ten digs. By her side was
Jayda Peterson (Zimmerman, MN, Princeton High School) who added in eight digs. NCU gave the Regents a tough fight but unfortunately were not able to come out on top.
