Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

A strong first half pushes the Rams over the Scots

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In their second game of the weekend, the North Central University (NCU) men's basketball team battled against Macalester College (MC). The Rams dominated in the first half letting them cruise over the Scots with a final score of 88-70.

Game Recap

After a close game the night before, NCU was determined to switch the outcome versus MC. The teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, however, the Rams went on a 16-2 run about five minutes in, fueled by multiple three pointers from three different Rams. NCU got up to a 27 point lead in the first half and ended the first 20 minutes up 21.

The Scots, even with a decent second half, were never able to overcome the first half deficit given to them by the superior NCU team. Both squads had similar numbers in the box score except for two key areas. First, the Rams had 17 assists to the Scots' four. Justin Castro (Kissimmee, FL, Gateway High School) led NCU with five followed by Seth Fuqua (Colorado Springs, CO, The Vanguard School) and Tanner Holtman (Aurora, CO, Grandview High School) with four each. Furthermore, MC shot 20% from the three point line where the Rams shot 54.5%. Cameron Thomas (Aurora, CO, Grandview High School) and Kayden Sund (Golden, CO) both had three three pointers and were both perfect from beyond the arc. The excellent shooting and teamwork from NCU gave them the edge in today's matchup.

Key Performers
  • Justin Castro led in almost all areas for the Rams with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
  • In just 19 minutes, Cameron Thomas scored 18 points including shooting 3-3 from the three point line.
  • Seth Fuqua also added three three's in his 11 points, along with four rebounds and four assists.
