Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rams continue to stay on top fueled by Talso's career-high 27 point night

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game of the week, the North Central University (NCU) women's basketball went head-to-head with the University of Wisconsin, Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets. The Rams made history for the second time this month by beating the Yellowjackets for the first time in program history. Started by a fantastic first quarter, NCU cruised to a victory by a final score of 67-47.

Game Recap

The Rams built their lead over the Yellowjackets right from tip-off, opening up on a massive 24 to 4 run. The Yellowjackets backcourt were unable to match the pace put forth by NCU guards Kadija Conteh (London, UK, City of London Academy) and Bailey Brewster (Burnsville, MN, Homeschool) who generated several turnovers that resulted in fast break opportunities. Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School) dominated the boards with 17 total rebounds on the night. Jocelyn Talso (Ramsey, MN, Spring Lake Park High School) was able to leak out early to drain multiple fast break three-point shots. Talso had incredible night with 27 points, shooting over 50% from downtown.

UWS switched their defense from man to zone in hopes of slowing down NCU's momentum in the second half. It took a little bit for the Rams to adjust to the switch up, but managed to never let Superior get within an NCU 10-15 point lead the entire game. On the other hand, the Rams were extremely active and aggressive in their own zone defense, snatching ten steals from the Yellowjackets and causing them to turn the ball over 17 times. Holding onto the lead down the stretch and stringing together several runs in the final eight minutes of the second half were insturmental to the win. North Central now advances to 5-0 in the conference and while staying undefeated in the Clark-Danielson Gymnasium.

Key Performers
  • With a career-high 27 points, Jocelyn Talso went 5-9 from the three point line and 6-6 from the free point line.
  • Kadija Conteh was close behind with 19 points. She also had four steals, and nine rebounds, just one shy of a double-double.
  • Emily DiGiorgio gave the Rams another double-double with 13 points and 17 boards.
