Game Recap: Softball |

Rams fall to Concordia in nonconference matchup

MOORHEAD, Minn. --  In just their second weekend of games, the North Central University (NCU) softball team engaged in a doubleheader with Concordia University (CU). The non-conference matchup took place on a somewhat rainy afternoon, where the Rams were able to show their skills once again. NCU played a tough ten innings in the day but were unable to match the hitting of the Cobbers. The Rams lost 15-0 in the first game and the second 21-0.

Game One Recap

At the mound again for the Rams, Catherine SanMiguel (San Antonio, TX, Kaiserslautern High School) earned the first out of the day for the Rams with a strikeout. NCU defensive efforts improved with each inning, holding CU to just one run in the fourth inning. NCU got multiple runners on base due to wild pitches from Concordia, but despite their attempts to rally the runners in, CU held the Rams scoreless. Fighting the cold, wind, rain, and their first road game of the season, the Rams were relentless in the five innings and never let up on CU.

Game Two Recap

Despite losing the first game, the Rams continued to battle for five more strong innings. NCU's offense, while not seen on the scoreboard, definitively improved in the second matchup. Catcher Alexis Jorgensen (Coon Rapids, MN, Coon Rapids High school), right field Crystal Garza (Elk Grove, CA, Capital Christian School), first base Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School), and pitcher SanMiguel all had hits for the Rams, showing the Cobber's what they can really do with a bat. NCU battled throughout the long game but unfortunately came up short against CU, ultimately losing 21-0. Continuing her appearance at the mound through five more innings in the second game, SanMiguel was able to add one more strikeout to her total for the night, ending this weekend's competition with 3 more strikeouts in the books.
