Game Recap: Softball |

Softball falls in doubleheader to Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn -- The North Central University (NCU) softball team traveled just a city over to face the University of Northwestern (UNW) in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup. After one week without competition, the Rams were eager to get back on the field. However, the Eagles quickly stole the momentum in both games in this afternoon's doubleheader. The final scores were 0-18 for the first game and 0-8 for the second.

Game One Recap

The Rams stepped up to the plate first, hoping to create an early lead. Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School) had a good hit early to give the Rams some momentum. While fielding, Adams was also dominant on the defensive end at first base. She had nine outs to help the Rams stop the Eagles. At shortstop, Megan Paulson (North Liberty, IA, Iowa City West High School) had six assists to aid in the outs at first base. NCU played well together and kept the encouragement up in each inning. The Ram's effort was there, but they, unfortunately, could not stop UNW as the final score was 0-18.

Game Two Recap

NCU did not let the first game get to them as they still persevered through a second game. The Ram's offense gathered some speed as they had three hits in this game from PaulsonRachel Loukinen (Little Falls, MN, Little Falls High School), and Nichelle Henderson (Brooklyn Park, MN, Park Center High School). Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School) was switched to first base instead of Adams for this game and still did a tremendous job. DeJong had four outs for the Rams. North Central softball's heart was on display for all to see as they continued to improve even between games today.

Key Performers

  • Lily Adams had one hit on the day and nine outs at first base.
  • Megan Paulson had two hits throughout two games, and three outs and seven assists total on the day.

Looking Ahead

The Rams have little rest time as they have another doubleheader scheduled for Monday. In another UMAC matchup, NCU takes on Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) with game times set for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. If fans are interested in cheering on the Rams, click here for BLC's COVID-19 policy on fan attendance.
