MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- North Central University (NCU) baseball was back in action at Stan Cyson Field on Tuesday afternoon when they hosted the Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) Vikings in a doubleheader
UMAC affair. Game one showcased a pitching battle between the two teams that ended up in BLC's favor down the stretch of the final few innings, 3 to 0. Game two was called prior to first pitch and was officially postponed.
Game One Recap
The Rams found themselves in a pitching duel to start out the game. Holding his usual spot in the pitching rotation was
Tyler Bloom (Montello, WI, Montello High School), who earned the start on the mound for the blue and gold in game one. The true freshman was lights out for the Rams early on. Through the first three innings pitched,
Bloom held the Vikings' offense scoreless while allowing only one hit and striking out two in the process. This gave the Rams' offense the chance to capitalize on a game that was knotted up at zeros halfway through. In the top of fourth inning,
Daniel Montana (Tucson, AZ, Cienega High School) took the mound in relief of
Bloom. BLC responded to the pitching change by striking first blood and getting the first run of the day on the board.
Tanner Oka (Mililani, HI, Hanalani School) entered at the 1 spot in the top of the fifth inning and held the Vikings offense to just two more runs through five innings pitched. The Rams' offense threatened a few times by getting runners on and in scoring position, but were unable to string a timely hit together they needed to get a run across the plate. In addition to the the well-rounded pitching performance, the Rams showcased a perfect defensive performance, accumulating no errors on the day. Despite the efforts on the mound and defensively, the Vikings edged out the Rams three to zero.
Game Two Recap
Game two was officially postponed before first pitch took place.
