MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- With the season coming to an end, the North Central University (NCU) softball team started their final week of play with a doubleheader against the College of Saint Scholastica (CSS), another
Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game for the Rams. NCU took on the Saints on their home field at Xcel Field Park. The Rams showed strong fielding throughout both games, but CSS managed to continue their undefeated conference season by coming out on top 0-13 and 2-20.
Game One Recap
Early on the Rams managed to showcase a stellar defensive effort by collecting seven total assists on defense, five more than the Saints.
Megan Paulson (North Liberty, IA, Iowa City West High School) and
Lily Adams (White Bear Lake, MN, White Bear Lake Area High School) both had two assists, who mainly threw it to
Lindsey DeJong (St. Charles, MO, St. Charles High School) at first base.
DeJong had seven total outs.
Selma Carrasco (El Paso, TX, Mountain View High School) followed behind
DeJong with three outs at third base. On the offensive side,
Carrasco doubled to center field in the fifth inning. Also having hits in this game were
Paulson and
Emily Loop (Phelan, CA, Serrano High School). The Rams were able to stay with the Saints, who is top seeded in the
UMAC, but eventually were unable to come out on top.
Game Two Recap
Besides a high scoring first inning for the Saints, NCU played alongside CSS and challenged them late in the game. The Rams offense kicked into overdrive in the fourth inning. It started with
Carrasco singling to left field, then
Paulson hitting a triple to bring
Carrasco home. The next batter,
Adams, singled to right field which consequently brought
Paulson home as well. Paulson also had five assists for outs, just one shy of her personal high in a single game.
DeJong had nine outs of her own. NCU showed their chemistry by racking up ten assists, six more than CSS. Despite the final score of 2-20, the Rams persevered and played hard until the very end.

- Lindsey DeJong continues to be dominate at first base with sixteen outs in the doubleheader.
