Men's soccer kicks off 2021 spring slate against top-seeded Wisconsin-Superior

Box Score Minneapolis, Minn. – North Central University (NCU) Rams men's soccer kicked off their 2021 spring season in an Upper Midwestern Athletic Conference (UMAC) conference matchup against the University of Wisconsin, Superior (UWS) Yellowjackets on Wednesday afternoon. The 2-0 UWS men's soccer program proved to be a tough opening matchup this afternoon. The day was plagued by weather delays in the women's competition prior to the men's matchup, causing a slight delay in start time and another delay in the second half of this game. Today's competition ended up going in Superior's favor with a final score of 0-6.

Game Recap

In the first half, UWS got off nine shots on goal, which led to goalkeeper, Michael Machuca (Rock Island, IL, Rock Island High School), stop 6 of them. The Yellowjackets have yet to allow a goal all season, showcasing what has been historically a sound defense for Superior. The Rams were able to get off two shots on goal, but none of them got past the UWS defense. In the first half, Elliott Lebsack (Kearney, NE, Kearney High School) shot the sole shot on Superior's goal, but the opposing keeper stopped it. Following the 30-minute weather delay in the second period, Superior's aggressive attack continued. Netting a few more goals in the game's waning minutes, the Yellowjackets created an 0-6 deficit that the Rams could not overcome before the timer hit 90 minutes.

Looking Ahead

North Central men's soccer will take the short trip to St. Paul to face the University of Northwestern (UNW) Eagles.
