Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- On the road for the first time this season, the North Central University (NCU) volleyball team traveled to Wisconsin for the Mount Mary Tournament. Today the Rams squared off against Ripon College (RC) and Eureka College (EC). In the first game against RC, it was a very tight match, but NCU unfortunately fell in three (25-22, 25-20, 25-21). Following this, the Rams came back to beat EC three sets to one (21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16).
Game 1 Recap
The Rams and the Red Hawks had a pretty even matchup in these three sets in which all were decided by five points or less. In the first set, NCU had a hitting percentage of .278. This excellent offense was led by senior
Jaselyn Anderson (Farmington, MN, Christian Life Academy) who had seven kills and her own individual hitting percentage of .273. Similarly,
Bria Reiser (Berlin, WI, Berlin High School) had six kills and a .333 hitting percentage.
Grace Brigson (West Salem, WI, West Salem High School)Â was essential in the game as she assisted in 13 kills for the Rams. On the defensive end,
Hannah Fischer (Kenyon, MN, Kenyon Wanamingo High School) led all players with 12 digs.
Hailey Lerfald (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo High School),
Emily DiGiorgio (Ironwood, MI, Luther L. Wright High School),Â
Makayla Krohnberg (Blaine, MN, Blaine High School), and
Anderson played big on the net blocking many of the Red Hawks hitters. NCU gave great energy in the exciting match despite the final score.Â
Game 2 Recap
NCU was given a short rest and thrown right back into battle against the Red Devils for their second game of the night. At first, the match was very close with each team taking a set by a few points. However, the Rams rallied in sets three and four and dominated EC to ultimately take home the win. The Rams combined for 25 kills in the final two sets way above the Red Devil's 12.
Lerfald turned her defense from the first game to intense offense as she delivered 14 kills for the match.
Krohnberg was vital in the win for the Rams adding in four service aces and an impressive 17 digs. NCU ended the night on a great note and look to continue their momentum through the rest of the tournament.Â
Key Performers
- Freshman Hailey Lerfald was on fire with a total of 17 kills, two blocks, six block assists, and ten digs. In the second game, Lerfald had a hitting percentage of .591.
- Also a huge contributor to the offensive line up was Jaselyn Anderson with 14 total kills and four block assists.
- Morgan Delange (Corsica, SD, Corsica-Stickney High School) had 11 kills in just the second game and also five digs.
Looking Ahead
The Rams will continue in the tournament tomorrow. At 10 am, they face Mount Mary University and then on to face Lawrence University at noon. All fans are encouraged to follow official Rams
