Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer lose in nail-biter to Finlandia

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The North Central University (NCU) women's soccer team faced Finlandia University (FU) in their last nonconference matchup of the season. Coming off of their first win of the season, the Rams looked to bring that energy and spirit into today's game. It was a close and exciting game that came down to the last minute, but the Lions ended up taking the win 3-2.

Game Vitals
  • The Rams scored in the first 39 seconds of the game.
  • Despite eight corner kicks for FU, NCU defended each and every one of them.

Game Recap

An extremely early goal by freshman Alexis Orlando (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount High School) stepped up the intensity of the game for the rest of the 90 minutes. The physicality of each team played a huge role in this matchup. Rachel Lampton (Lake Villa, IL, Lakes Community High School) was a force to be reckoned with in the center back position. Lampton is a strong consistent player who leads her backline with her voice and by example. Helping her stop the Lions in the back were Hannah Fischer (Port Washington, WI, Living Word Lutheran High School), Sydney Cooper (Andover, MN, Andover High School), and Annalise Gehrke (Plymouth, MN, For Him Academy) who were great clearing the ball up the field. At the half, FU was able to score more goals making the score 2-1 and then was able to get another one early in the second getting the score to 3-1. The Rams were still able to keep their heads up and eyes on the goal. NCU constantly took the ball down the sideline testing the hands of the Lion's keeper. In the 70th minute, Orlando hit a bullet from the top of the box into the upper right corner of the net. This helped the Rams to get in closer reach of the win. NCU played till the final whistle always hustling after each ball, defending with maximum effort, and showing their character in how they ended the game.

Looking Ahead

The Rams get a week to rest and prepare for their next game. Northwestern will travel to NCU this coming Saturday for the first conference matchup of the season. The game is slated to begin at 6:30 pm. All fans are encouraged to follow official Rams Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages for updates about women's soccer and much more information.
